ArcGIS layers accompanying report Risk assessment of seabird bycatch in UK waters - MB0126

These data layers support the project Risk assessment of seabird bycatch in UK waters1, project MB0126, compiled by WWT Consulting. This dataset contains shapefile layers for: location of waterbird Special Protection Areas, seabird foraging ranges, survey effort, seabird predicted densities, and associated Confidence Values from modelling, fishing effort, bycatch vulnerability and bycatch risk. This is just a summary of layers present - please see full report (page 27) for fuller explanation and citation of data layers. The following layers are included in groups: ❖ Display Layers ➢ UK Coastline polygon ➢ Marine waterbird Special Protection Areas ➢ Foraging ranges (Mean-maximum and Maximum) ➢ The 3km x 3km prediction grid used for modelling ❖ Survey Effort ➢ Survey effort for the English waters project 'SeaMaST' and those data analysed for this project 'MB1026 MRSea' as survey tracklines (with year and month provided as fields to allow queries by date) and summarised by season (summer (‘sum’) or winter (‘win’)) for each 3km x 3km grid cell ❖ Fishing Effort ➢ Mean number of hours for each gear type over the period 2009 to 2013 ❖ Fishing effort – summarised ➢ The maximum values from the fishing effort raster layers extracted into each 3km x 3km grid cell by season ➢ The fishing effort summarised by whether the gear presents risk at the surface, pelagic (midwater) or bottom (benthic) for each season ❖ Density ➢ Density predictions on the 3km x 3km grid from the MB0126 MRSea modelling undertaken by CREEM, corrected densities for rarer species and those done for SeaMaST for each species in each season ❖ Confidence Values ➢ Confidence Values associated with the density predictions in each 3km x 3km grid cell from the MB0126 MRSea modelling undertaken by CREEM and that done for SeaMaST for each species in each season ❖ Vulnerability ➢ Six shapefiles showing the relative vulnerability to surface, pelagic or benthic bycatch in summer or winter across the study area summed for all species ❖ Risk ➢ Six shapefiles showing the relative bycatch risk to surface, pelagic or benthic bycatch in summer or winter across the study area for all species combined. These are the product of the vulnerability layers and the fisheries effort layers
