SNPA - Tree Preservation Orders

The dataset records the extent and location of protected trees within Snowdonia National Park. Individual trees are represented by a point and groups of trees are represented by a polygon.

Local Planning Authorities have specific powers to protect individual trees, groups of trees, and woodlands if their removal or changes to them would have significant impact on the local environment and its enjoyment by the public. The legal mechanism is called a ‘Tree Preservation Order’ (TPO). Work to a tree protected by a TPO is prohibited without prior permission from the Local Planning Authority, although there are a number of exceptions to this.

In Snowdonia National Park, Snowdonia National Park Authority is the Local Planning Authority.
