The data is used to support the Woodland Carbon Fund, which was launched in 2016.
The Forestry Commission identified Priority Places for England (PPE) areas based on data that includes populations, deprivation indices and existing public access provision.
Methodology summary:
• Census Output Areas with usual resident population (minus prison and MOD population) were identified.
• Those Census Output Areas within urban areas (>10,000 population) that are also within the 40% most deprived areas in England were identified.
• These areas were buffered by 4km to create the PPE boundaries in this dataset.
• Further details can be requested from the data custodian.
Woodland Creation Grant schemes that fell within the boundaries of the PPE data were potentially eligible for an Additional Contribution of grant aid.
