County Geodiversity Sites

The polygons are the official County Geodiversity Sites (or CGS) boundaries, formally known as Regionally Important Geological and Geomorphological Sites (or RIGS) , as designated by the County Geodiversity Sites group ( a sub-group of Norfolk’s geological conservation group). Planning decisions can take account of these sites - so planners and highways designers etc. need access to the site boundary polygons. As well as the need for access to this data by the environment section of ETD. The attributes within the dataset are currently: The site name; the site number (reference number); the hyperlink to the official PDF citation. The dataset is updated annually (unless exceptional circumstances), usually in April. This is officially via the Norfolk County Wildlife Site CD each year; the GIS datasets are then published internally for NCC users in Mapinfo .tab format and ESRI shapefiles. The dataset and PDF citation is also available via the NMB browser.
