Notes to Fraud Data 2018/19
- The information provided relates to fraud against the authority, it does not include cases of fraudulent activity by traders, as investigated by Trading Standards.
- The fraud value figure includes notional values for fraud used by the Cabinet Office for the National Fraud Initiative in the areas of Tenancy, Care Home, Concessionary fare and immigration fraud. ‘Right to Buy’ fraud has been valued as the discount that would have been given to the buyer.
- The total number and value of fraud includes the following which could be either fraud or irregularity:
• Incorrect claiming of Council Tax - single persons discount
- Responsibility for benefit fraud investigation has transferred to the Department of Work and Pensions as of 1st April 2015. Although the authority has seen a number of benefit fraud prosecution cases through to a conclusion, and works with the DWP on benefit fraud. These have not been included in the transparency data.
- The ‘fraud recovered figure is ‘recoverable savings’ as opposed to ‘recovered’ as we do not currently record the amount recovered.
