2006 - 2006 Centre for Environment, Fisheries & Aquaculture Science (Cefas) Yorkshire Coast Velvet Crab Maturity Study 2006/07 - Fisheries Science Partnership

A sample of 28 crabs was returned to the laboratory at the end of Fisheries Science Partnership work carried out at Bridlington with the aim of investigating the feasibility of a study on reproductive cycle.

The fishing vessels Hollie J * and Magdalene Ann * were chartered in June 2006 to carry out a potting survey for velvet crabs in the area from Flamborough Head to North of Spurn Point. Target fishing positions were spread throughout the survey area, but potential gear conflicts confined most stations to a band 6 to 12 miles off the coast. The survey took place in June when catch rates of velvet swimming crabs were beginning to increase after a delayed start to the season.
